If I can't help me who's gonna help me? I'm a long ways down. Who's gonna help me? If you won't help me who's gonna help me? It's a long ways up. Who's gonna help me? I been sitting in my room staring at the ceiling Been sitting all alone. I need another point of view I been sitting in my room. I need a change of scenery Been sitting all alone. I wonder what I'm gonna do I went to the doctor. Doctor can you help me? Got an aching in my heart. I'm having trouble sleeping He said, take this note, take it to the pharmacy It'll help with the pain but it ain't gonna cure you So I went to the church. Father can you help me? I don't believe in god. I don't believe in anything Went to the church. Father can you help me? He said you're all already lost and no one here can save you Been bustin up my hands – try to make some money Cuz everybody sayin you gotta make some money Been bustin up my hands – try to make some money But I spent it all on cigarettes and coffee So I went to my love, said, baby can you help me? When I stumble when I fall baby will you catch me? I went to my love. Baby can you help me? She said I've troubles of my own. I got no time to help you If I can't help me who's gonna help me? I'm a long ways down. Who's gonna help me? If you won't help me who's gonna help me? It's a long ways up. Who's gonna help me?

when I sat down alone on the mountain I was broke-down living in vain I let the wind hear my latest confession I said, 'I'm dying to be born again' and then that wind got working in inside me and the sun burned through my pain and when that wind came howling out of me mountains echoed with the word she's saying she said, 'Yodl-lay-ee-hee, yodl-lay-hee” so when I walked on down from that mountain there was love shining from within and now I'm dancing with the kids in the city enlightened and ready to sin yeah I was born in pursuit of affection and I like the way you move your lips but my desire is a state of affliction crying out from my swinging hips she said, 'Yodl-lay-ee-hee, yodl-lay-hee” yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee so you've heard my latest confession with your eyes burning right through me and it's a bit premature-confidential but I'm hoping that you like what you see but I'm a bit too self-referential and I'm a bit too eager to please and that hot-cold love differential it's gonna knock that mountain wind of of me, oh no yodl-lay-ee-hee, yodl-lay-hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee when I walk on down from that mountain, now all I had was game but when I get down to dance in the city, let me tell ya all I got was pain, oh yeah yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee hee yodl-lay-ee yodl-lay-ee

She had a need to get away A desperate need to get away And though she could not quite explain We understood she would not stay here for long He had a need to get away, A restless heart and debts unpaid And though he did not have a plan He had his heart, a sturdy back, and able hands What makes a person need to leave their home To pack up their belongings, pull their roots and roam? Is it the weather, yeah that constant rain Or the chance to be be a new face with a brand new name? Some folks weren't born to linger, always been that way They go from everywhere to anywhere and on again She found a ticket she could pay Across the world, far away She only need to go one way And after that she couldn't say, could not say He bought a car when he got paid He quit his job that same old day And drove it hard across the plains He didn't stop 'till next day sun rose again What makes a person need to leave their home To gather up their memories, and hit the road? Is it the weather, yeah that constant rain, Or the chance to be be a new face with a brand new name? Some folks weren't born to linger, always been that way They go from everywhere to anywhere and on again. It ain't no paid vacation It ain't no pleasure cruise It's a whole lot more more like breathing – if you choke it then you lose It ain't no warm adventure It ain't no choice to choose It drives us like the beating of our hearts that we can't mute And if time's a raging river In its journey to the sea Then let's all go to the water with our yearning to be free And let's find a little courage Sink our feet into the sway Let the current seize our bodies and sweep us all away What makes a person need to leave their home To say goodbye to everything and go, go, go! Is it the weather or a love gone bad? Do you hope to find a place where you don't feel so sad? Some folks weren't born to linger, always been that way They go from everywhere to anywhere and on again They go from everywhere to anywhere, try to ease their pain But the end is the beginning is the road again There's a restlessness that's pounding on their waking days So the sleep of sweet contentment will never kiss their brain Some folks weren't born to linger, always been that way They go from everywhere to anywhere and on and on and on

I tell you Robert James Johnson was a business man he had a whole lot of money flowing through his hands and when he walked down the street, I tell you people'd know because Robert James Johnson let his riches show now Robert never walked a mile in someone else's shoes but then I've seen him down on Hastings trying to drown his blues and when that whiskey wasn't strong enough to heal his pain our poor Bobby shot that heroin in his veins and now our Bobby sees the world as a poor man sees he's walked a hundred bloody miles in a poor man's dreams he's been stripped of all his pride now he is born again since he shot that blood of Jesus down in his veins Bobby shot somebody else's blood in his veins and now he's singing hallelujah in Jesus' name he's a shepherd and a healer to the poor and the lame since he shot somebody else's blood in his veins now you'll see Bobby Jim Jesus on Hastings row and he'll be chasing 'way the sorrows from the folks he know he's preaching 'You shall love your brother and repent your shame when you've got that blood of Jesus down in your veins' Bobby shot somebody else's blood in his veins and now he's singing hallelujah in Jesus' name he's a shepherd and a healer to the poor and the lame since he shot somebody else's blood in his veins Bobby shot somebody else's blood in his veins and now he's got that blood of Jesus down in his veins Bobby shot somebody else's blood in his veins and now he's singing hallelujah in Jesus' name

Thunder Out 04:43
He stole an ancient Caravan; dirty, stubborn goat Dropped his bullets in the gas tank and he left behind the coast He was running fast from destiny and running from his dreams He thought he'd find salvation in that ragged old machine But an hour out of Edmonton he passed out at the wheel Woke up on the rumble strip, woke up feeling real Give that boy a cigarette, no time to catch his breath He'll be wide awake til Winnipeg, dreaming bout his death So he cooked a pot of rocket fuel, strained it through a comb Sucked it back like water and it lit him to the bone By the time it cleared his bloodstream yeah all he knew was go An endless mile from nowhere on the left side of the road And he drank a sea of alcohol a bottle at a time I say, “Better stick to water if you cannot draw a line.” But the opposite of self-control is doing what you're told And he's so fast at living, couldn't dream of growing old But those thick black clouds were rolling in, the wind was blowing cold Tires broke for summer and thunder on the road When the rain is pouring solid on the glass too thick to see Stick your head out of the window, taste the hundred mile breeze All that hot adrenaline broke something in his brain He was surely seeing things, hearing voices in the rain A wicked demon closing in, a shadow taking form A million charging buffalo electric in the storm Praise the storm and brace for thunder Haul away all your illusion oh haul away slumber Open, sky, reveal your wonder Thunder out all of your mystery oh thunder out! He roared on through the thunderstorm, a ghost behind the wheel Devil on his shoulder in a coffin made of steel Folks who heard him coming got down on their knees and prayed Shutter all your windows if you want another day It was a blind and lame messiah who finally took him down Picked a stone up off the asphalt and layed him on the ground Said, "He's done his time of breathin and he's gotta learn to share. That's a whole damn lot of buffalo and not a lot of air."
